What Is a Dissertation? New Models, New Methods, New Media

When: Friday, October 10, 4.00-5.30pm (EST)

Where: Studio@Butler (208 Butler Library), Columbia University

What: We will be livestreaming this forum, which is taking place at the Graduate Center, CUNY, from the Studio@Butler at Columbia University. The forum, chaired by Distinguished Professor and Director of the Futures Initiative and HASTAC@CUNY, Cathy N. Davidson, will showcase recent and current doctoral students whose dissertations exemplify innovative, experimental formats–Scalar, video, websites, comics, multimedia inter actives. A open public Google Doc has been set up, which is designed to record and model successful institutional change–and to celebrate individuals and institutions leading such change. The goal of the forum is to model success stories (and challenges overcome) on the way to inventive, digital, experimental new forms of dissertations. This event is co-sponsored by Columbia Libraries/Information Services’ Studio@Butler, the Center for Digital Research and Scholarship, and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS).

Details of the forum can all be found on the HASTAC website here. To join the discussion around the forum on Twitter, head to the #remixthediss hashtag.
