Services

The Center for Digital Research and Scholarship (CDRS) can support your research process and projects with expert advice, innovative tools, and a diverse set of services.

If you have an inquiry or project idea, please feel free to email our staff, or fill out our contact form. Learn how our current partners are creatively using (and combining) CDRS services on the Projects page.

Academic Commons - Digital Repository and Services

Our services around Academic Commons enhance discovery, visualization, management, and use of digital resources.

Academic Commons extends the traditional role of the Libraries to support research at all stages and preserve, manage, and provide access to many types of materials (e.g., articles and monographs, working papers, preprints, post-prints, technical reports, conference papers, datasets, and multimedia creations) in a variety of digital formats. For more information about how you can deposit your work in Academic Commons, please email Sarah Holsted, Digital Repository Coordinator, at sholsted [at] columbia.edu.

Spectrum - Digital Video and Conference Services

Our spectrum services help sustain and expand the reach of your event and the ideas it inspires.

Video production

The CDRS Video team can help you capture academic events on digital video, shoot interviews, digitize offline resources, create training videos and mini-documentaries, build podcasts, and more. For a customized price quote, please email Vincent Aliberto, Video Services Manager, at va118 [at] columbia.edu.

Conference collections

For academic events, CDRS can help build accompanying digital collections of presentations and papers, as well as related wikis and blogs. For example, if you are planning a research symposium, we can work with you to build a website that displays a live blog beside streaming video of the event, with the transcripts archived in Academic Commons. To discuss your next conference with CDRS, please email Diana Price, Communications Coordinator, at dp2065 [at] columbia.edu.

Texture - Digital Publications Services

Our texture services deepen the impact of your text and media via innovative technology.

Columbia-based journals

CDRS offers journal hosting support services to Columbia faculty and students who want to start or continue publishing a journal. Services include advice on the digitization of print back issues; platform software hosting, updates, and enhancements; integration of interactive elements such as blogs and wikis; copyright consulting; and more. Service fees are based on client needs. To set up a meeting to explore what we can do for your journal, please email Diana Price, Communications Coordinator, at dp2065 [at] columbia.edu.

Publishing partnerships

CDRS provides support for traditional and new publishing models by working with Columbia-based authors and their editors at university presses and academic publishers to create enhanced digital publications of their print books. We also support the creation of digital ancillaries (such as wikis set up for translation of journal articles or blogs for discussion of published work) of pieces that already appear elsewhere online. If you’re interested in having us work with your press or publisher, please email Rebecca Kennison, Director, at rkennison [at] columbia.edu.
